‘Dance of the Butterflies’ 20:20 Print Exchange 2025 - An internationally touring exhibition and exchange of prints.
Three-layered Lino-print - 20.0 x 20.0 cm
The inspiration for this piece came from a mundane butterfly who flew in a very bobbing and silly fashion. I pondered how she couldn’t care less about how strange her movements may appear, and how she instead lived/danced/flew freely.
Within this modern culture, and as a woman in particular, there’s an unspoken pressure to move quietly, not to take up too much space, don’t draw too much attention to yourself, restrict your being to fit in a box deemed acceptable.
I wanted to counter this and draw women moving expressively and free, with no care of others’ opinions or expectations. They join in the butterfly’s dance and live as themselves.
